The Christian educator’s mission is to help each student follow God’s will for his life and to equip him with the knowledge to succeed. God’s plan for each student is unique. We cannot set the destination for our students—that is God’s role—but we can mentor them to pursue God with their whole hearts.
Peter Tierney attended Lancaster Baptist School from kindergarten through twelfth grade. He kept a right attitude toward God, his parents, and his pastor through his teen years, and he sincerely sought God’s will for his life. After much prayer and solid counsel from his parents and pastor, Peter applied to a university to study mechanical engineering. He also submitted an application for the Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship, a prestigious full-tuition scholarship which would secure him an engineering job after college.
Peter took the right steps. He followed the counsel of his parents and pastor; he had no agenda for his own life apart from God’s will; and he laid out some ‘fleeces’—tests that would help prove God’s will.
In 2009, Peter learned that both of his applications had been accepted. God gave His clear answer. When the home, the church, and the school work together, the product is a young person with the knowledge to excel and the heart to follow God throughout his adult life.
